Hunt: Showdown will have company next year in the extraction shooter genre, as developer Good Fun Corporation has announced their own horror extraction shooter and “slasher”, the PvPvE FPS HUNGER. The shooter, which also combines RPG elements, will launch in Early Access for PC via Steam and Epic Games Store.

HUNGER takes place in Napoleonic Europe in the aftermath of the Bacterium plague. As a survivor among the Living, you will embark on a solitary journey or unite with allies in pairs or trios, navigating the perilous landscape haunted by monstrous beings spawned from the plague’s wrath, known as the Hunger.

Your survival and prosperity in this world are intertwined with the denizens of the Chateau – a broad array of quest givers, shopkeepers, stashkeepers, bounty hunters and other Living. Completing quests and building your reputation will grant you access to new locations, abilities, characters, weapons, gear, and resources. At your disposal are are variety of weapons, including firearms, throwables, as well as hand-to-hand combat with axes, swords and maces. Built upon a mix of “methodical and frenetic ranged and melee combat”, you’ll also be equipping armor and shielding, bags, trinkets, medicines and more to aid you in battle.

As mentioned, HUNGER will employ RPG elements that includes a set of unlockable unique Passive, Tactical and Ultimate abilities, alongside “deep and extremely customisable” mastery trees with more than 100 talents. You can build your character to employ stealth mechanics, or specialise in ranged combat by quickening your reload speed and increasing your weapon control. Or, if you choose a support role, you can forego lethal tactics and focus on support skills in repair healing.

Good Fun Corporation estimates that HUNGER will be in Early Access for two years “as we work to bring the title to a fully featured state.”
