Eminem has a hand in a new documentary about superfans, Variety reports. The film’s working title is Stans, named after the obsessive title character of Eminem’s iconic 2000 song. According to Variety, the film is described as a “revealing, edgy, and disarmingly personal journey into the world of superfandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic and enduring artists, Eminem, and the fans that worship him.”

Eminem is co-producing Stans via Shady Films, in association with DIGA Studios and Hill District Media. “Stans will be the opportunity for us to to turn the camera around and ask the audience about being fans—and in some cases, fanatics,” Shady Films’ Paul Rosenberg and Stuart Parr said in a statement to Variety. “This is a study of the relationship between fanbase and artist through the lens of one of Eminem’s most fascinating songs and one of the world’s most important entertainers.”

DIGA Studios’ CEO and founder, Tony DiSanto, added, “Stans will explore the complex relationship between fame and super fandom, told through the lens of one of the world’s most iconic artists, Eminem, his music, and, especially, his most extreme fans.”

“Stan,” featuring a Dido sample, is on Eminem’s The Marshall Mathers LP. The word “stan” was added to the Oxford English Dictionary in 2017 and Merriam-Webster’s dictionary in 2019. It’s in both reference books as both a noun and a verb.
