Battle a Monstrous Version of Steamboat Willie and Other Urban Legends in ‘Infestation 88’ [Trailer]

Horror

Remember last year when Winnie The Pooh entered public domain, and we not only got Winnie The Pooh: Blood and Honey, but also the announcement of the Lovecraftian FPS Hundred Acre Wood? Nightmare Forge Games are taking the same approach with Steamboat Willie entering public domain in their co-op horror game, Infestation 88.

In case you weren’t aware, Steamboat Willie is the earliest version of Mickey Mouse, and has entered public domain as of today after 95 years. So what better way to celebrate than revealing an episodic 1-4 player FPS about an exterminator clearing out infestations caused by twisted versions of classic characters and urban legends?

Slated to release into Early Access on Steam later this year, Infestation 88 sees you (or you and your friends) visiting various locations to uncover the story behind each infestation, and exterminating it at the source. That involves you searching each location to access and unlock new areas, but also using cameras to keep an eye on each infestation’s activity. You’ll also need to maintain power to make sure each of your systems remains online.

Players will have a variety of gear at their disposal to combat each outbreak, but they’ll also have to contend with the monstrous fiends lurking throughout each area. As a team, do you split up to tackle the infestation faster, or do you stick together to maintain safety in numbers? Each episode will culminate in you having to face and eliminate the horrific entity inspired by the previously-mentioned classic characters and urban legends responsible for the respective infestation.

As you play, you’ll gain experience, allowing you to unlock new skins, perks, items, and other unlockables. To ensure replayability, Infestation 88 will have randomized item layouts, unpredictable AI, as well as a variety of custom settings to tweak your experience.
