It’s tough out there for adaptations of Stephen King‘s Salem’s Lot and its prequel story “Jerusalem’s Lot.” While the Salem’s Lot remake hangs in limbo without a release date, the “Chapelwaite” showrunner announced today that season two won’t be moving forward after all, despite a renewal in 2022.
“Chapelwaite” co-showrunner Jason Filardi broke the news via X, formerly known as Twitter. Jason Filardi served as showrunner, writer, and executive producer alongside Peter Filardi.

Stephen King‘s prequel story “Jerusalem’s Lot” published in 1978 and featured the fictional town King introduced a few years prior in the novel Salem’s Lot. “Chapelwaite” premiered in August 2021 on EPIX, with a season renewal announced in February 2022.
Considering EPIX rebranded as MGM+ earlier this year, and there’s been no updates on “Chapelwaite” season two since its renewal announcement, this likely doesn’t come as too big of a surprise. Though it’s disappointing all the same.
Oscar-winner Adrien Brody starred in the vampire series as Captain Charles Boone, alongside Emily Hampshire (“Schitt’s Creek”).
The official plot: “The series is set in the 1850s. It follows Captain Charles Boone (Brody), who relocates his family of three children to his ancestral home in the small, seemingly sleepy town of Preacher’s Corners, Maine after his wife dies at sea. However, Charles will soon have to confront the secrets of his family’s sordid history, and fight to end the darkness that has plagued the Boones for generations.”
“Hampshire will play Rebecca Morgan, an ambitious young woman who left Preacher’s Corners to attend Mount Holyoke College, and has returned home with an advance to write a story for the new and prestigious Atlantic Magazine. Her writer’s block lifts when Boone arrives in town with his children, and despite her mother’s protests, Rebecca applies to be governess of the infamous Chapelwaite manor and the Boone family in order to write about them. In doing so, Rebecca will not only craft the next great gothic novel, she’ll unravel a mystery that has plagued her own family for years.”
MGM+ hasn’t officially announced the series’ cancellation yet, but the showrunner’s words say it all. Here’s to hoping Salem’s Lot fares better.
