What Yoko Has Said About Motherhood

These days, Yoko lives a life mostly out of the spotlight, but she has spoken publicly a few times about being a proud mom. In 2014, she told MotherMag her thoughts on childbirth. “The minute-to-minute hardships women go through to carry their babies are never discussed or reported in the media, anywhere,” she said at the time. “No one ever talks about carrying around that big tummy 24 hours a day. A staggering number of women don’t even survive the experience, and die during childbirth. But we never complain. We just remain thankful that our babies came out looking powerful and sweet at the same time. Every baby is a Revolution.”

And earlier, in 2011, Yoko spoke to Esquire, via Esme about becoming a widow after John’s death. “[John] was a very strong and beautiful and protective force for me,” she said at the time. “I didn’t think I would be a widow. Nobody thinks they are going to be a widow. And the minute I was a widow, I started to see what a test it is to be a widow in this society.”
