Fresh off Jordan Peele’s Nope, Oscar winner Daniel Kaluuya is entering the Spider-Verse in Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse, voicing the comic book character Spider-Punk!

The new movie from Sony Pictures is of course the sequel to 2018 hit Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, which was led by Shameik Moore as new Spider-Man Miles Morales.

The Wrap reports, “The second film will follow Miles Morales (Shameik Moore), who has taken on the mantle of Brooklyn’s friendly neighborhood Spider-Man, as he reunites with Gwen Stacy (Hailee Steinfeld) to navigate the complicated web of the multiverse in the shadow of a new villain and team of Spider-People.”

Spider-Punk’s real name is Hobie Brown, a character introduced in 2015. Wikipedia recaps, “He is a homeless teenager who was transformed by a spider that was irradiated as part of President Norman Osborn’s toxic waste dumping. He becomes the punk-rock inspired Spider-Man, leading the downtrodden people of New York against Osborn’s V.E.N.O.M. troops.”

Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse arrives in theaters on June 2, 2023.

The film’s voice cast also includes Oscar Isaac as Miguel O’Hara (Spider-Man 2099), Brian Tyree Henry as Miles’ father Jefferson Davis, Luna Lauren Velez as Miles’ mother Rio Morales, Issa Rae as Jessica Drew or Spider-Woman, Jorma Taccone as Viltire, Rachel Dratch, Jason Schwartzman as Spot, Shea Whigham and Greta Lee.

Justin K. Thompson, Joaquim Dos Santos and Kemp Powers are directing the sequel.
