Grimes made a surprise appearance on the new episode of Saturday Night Live last night (May 8). The show was hosted by Elon Musk, who played Wario on trial in a Super Mario-themed courtroom sketch. Grimes appeared dressed as the character Princess Peach, continuing the tradition of hosts being joined by their celebrity partners on the show (which just happened with Carey Mulligan and Marcus Mumford). The appearance marked Grimes’ SNL debut. She recently hypothesized on Twitter about why she hasn’t received that opportunity: “The music booker from SNL came to my show once but I literally concussed myself in the first ten mins of the show, blacked out and played a famously horrific set that I have no memory of and I think the booker thinks im the worst live act ever haha but kinda funny anecdote.”

Earlier this year, Grimes announced that she’d signed to Columbia Records after releasing multiple albums on 4AD. Her last album was 2020’s Miss Anthropocene. Last night’s episode featured musical guest Miley Cyrus.
