‘Space Jam: A New Legacy’ Trailer: Pennywise, King Kong, Joker and Others Cheer on LeBron James [Video]

Horror

The trailer for Space Jam: A New Legacy is here and immediately calls to mind Steven Spielberg’s Ready Player One, this time sucking NBA superstar (and well-known horror fan) LeBron James into a “Serververse” where all of Warner Bros.’ iconic characters reside.

The trailer reveals that James assembles his own “Dream Team” (how on brand), which includes none other than King Kong (it feels like this drop was perfectly timed to coincide with this week’s release of Godzilla vs. Kong).

Going frame-by-frame through the trailer it’s still hard to identify all of the cameos, but it does confirm that It‘s terrifying clown Pennywise makes an appearance (James once dressed up as the iconic Stephen King character for Halloween), as well as multiple incarnations of Batman villains Joker, Penguin and Catwoman, not to mention Scooby-Doo, and characters from Thundercats, He-Man(?), Mad Max and A Clockwork Orange. Some photos below.

In the film, “When LeBron and his young son Dom are trapped in a digital space by a rogue A.I., LeBron must get them home safe by leading Bugs, Lola Bunny and the whole gang of notoriously undisciplined Looney Tunes to victory over the A.I.’s digitized champions on the court: a powered-up roster of professional basketball stars as you’ve never seen them before. It’s Tunes versus Goons in the highest-stakes challenge of his life, that will redefine LeBron’s bond with his son and shine a light on the power of being yourself. The ready-for-action Tunes destroy convention, supercharge their unique talents and surprise even “King” James by playing the game their own way.”

The Tunes take on the Goons in theaters and on HBO Max this coming July 16th.
