Sons of Kemet have announced a new album. Black to the Future is the follow-up to 2018’s Your Queen Is a Reptile, and it arrives May 14 via Impulse! Records (which is celebrating its 60th anniversary this year). The fourth album from the Shabaka Hutchings–led jazz outfit is led by the single “Hustle,” featuring UK artist Kojey Radical; the track also has backing vocals from Lianne La Havas. Find it below.

Angel Bat Dawid, Moor Mother, and grime artist D Double E make guest spots on Sons of Kemet’s new record. “Black to the Future is a sonic poem for the invocation of power, remembrance and healing. It depicts a movement to redefine and reaffirm what it means to strive for black power,” Hutchings said in a press release.

“The meaning is not universal and the cultural context of the listener will shape their understanding,” he added. “Yet in the end, the overarching message remains the same: For humanity to progress we must consider what it means to be Black to the Future.”
