The latest celebrity to respond to Framing Britney Spears, the explosive documentary about the singer’s conservatorship and life, is long-term friend Paris Hilton.

Hilton, singer and socialite, has said the legal arrangement which sees Spears’ well-being and estate, among other things, controlled by her father Jamie Spears is “not fair”.

Discussing The New York Times programme on her podcast, This is Paris, Thursday (25 February), Hilton admitted that she hasn’t spoken to Spears in a “few months” nor has she watched the documentary.

Nevertheless, she said she had heard it was “really sad” as she reflected on the court-ordered conservatorship that Spears has lived under since 2008 after suffering a mental health crisis.

Paris Hilton on Britney Spears: ‘I just can’t imagine being controlled like that’

“It makes me really feel for her,” the 40-year-old said, “because she’s such a sweet girl and has such a big heart and I just can’t imagine being controlled like that.

“You know, when you’re an adult and you’ve worked your whole life for building this empire and then just to be treated like a child, it’s just not fair.”

The documentary has ignited a reckoning of sorts among the press and other high-profile figures. Some have owned up for how they treated the musician in the late 2000s. Others have not.

“I’ve been reading all of these articles coming out where they were just saying, like, Britney, Paris and a group of us were treated so unfairly and just like, this really misogynistic view and just being very cruel and mean and making fun of us,” Hilton said.

“I never really thought about it as much. It made me think a lot this week, reading all these new things that are coming out after the Britney film.”

As well as the toxic treatment she received from paparazzi, Framing Britney Spears touched on the sexist backlash the star received after her break-up with Justin Timberlake, prompting an apology from the singer.
