Playboi Carti has released his long-awaited new album Whole Lotta Red. The follow-up to 2018’s Die Lit features contributions from Kanye West, Future, and Kid Cudi. Producers listed on Whole Lotta Red include Pi’erre Bourne, Art Dealer, F1lthy, Juberlee, Richie Souf, Wheezy, and more. “F33l Lik3 Dyin,” the final song on the 24-track record, samples Bon Iver’s i,i song “iMi” and, as a result, credits Justin Vernon, James Blake, Brad Cook, and plenty of others as co-writers.
Since releasing Die Lit, Playboi Carti has hopped on tracks with a number of artists, including Solange (“Almeda”), Tyler, the Creator (“EARFQUAKE”), Mustard (“Baguettes in the Face”), Drake (“Pain 1993”), and Lil Yachty (“Flex Up”). In April, Carti returned with a video for “@ MEH,” his first solo track since the release of Die Lit. The visual was directed by Carti and Nick Walker.
Check out Pitchfork’s “The 50 Best Albums of 2018,” featuring Die Lit at No. 25.
CORRECTION: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated that “M3tamorphosis” is a new version of the oft-leaked Playboi Carti “Kid Cudi” (aka “Pissy Pamper”). The statement has been removed.
