Long before Catherine O’Hara’s iconic Moira Rose character from ‘Schitt’s Creek,’ she played Macaulay Culkin’s mom in the ‘Home Alone’ films. She recreated her classic ‘Kevin!’ realization in a viral video fans are living for.
Over two decades prior to Catherine O’Hara yelling “David!” to her son on Schitt’s Creek, there was another unforgettable on-screen son she had. The Emmy winner played Macaulay Culkin‘s mom Kate McCallister in the the first two Home Alone movies. Now that Christmastime is here and those holiday classics from 1990 and 1992 are getting watched again, video has surfaced of Catherine’s Kate making the horrible realization that their family had gone on another family trip and left Mac’s Kevin behind, alongside the actress today acting out the same scene.

Catherine is seen in a split screen, with her in 1992’s Home Alone 2: Lost in New York wearing short red hair on the right. She then makes the realization that her son isn’t with her, turning to the camera and screaming “Kevin!” before fainting backwards. On the left is 66-year-old actress today, seen with her shoulder length blonde hair making the exact same move and “Kevin!” scream before passing out. The video was picked up by a TikTok fan of the Canadian actress and so far has over 440K views.
The original version of clip appears at the very end of a tribute to late filmmaker John Hughes, who wrote and produced both Home Alone films. Stars from many of his classic movies appeared and acted along some of their most famous lines from Hughes’ classic movies such as the Vacation series, Sixteen Candles, The Breakfast Club, Pretty in Pink and more. The nearly five minute video from actor Josh Gad‘s Reunited Apart series first surfaced on YouTube on June 30, 2020. You can see Catherine recreate her classic scene above at the 4:43 mark along with all of the other stars in beloved John Hughes films.
The video made it’s way onto Twitter, where some fans reacted in shock that Moira Rose and Kate McCallister are one in the same actress. User @brogantatexo tweeted, “I was today years old when I realized Catherine O’Hara is Moira Rose AND Kevin’s mum in Home Alone,” while @soneall89 wrote, “I’m sorry but if you didn’t know Catherine O’Hara was in Home Alone then you actually don’t deserve Catherine O’Hara. Fan @bookworm84 wrote, “I can’t believe that people are losing their minds as they realize that the great Catherine O’Hara was Kevin’s mom in Home Alone.”
Catherine is now primarily known to Gen Z audiences for her epic role as Moira on Schitt’s Creek, which won her a much deserved 2020 Prime Time Emmy for Best Actress in a Comedy. After six seasons of her wild wigs, over the top outfits and bizarre accent on the Pop TV series that gained millions of viewers via Netflix, some younger fans can’t believe she’s one in the same as Kevin’s wholesome mom in Home Alone. The way she says “David!” as seen in the montage above really is a work of acting art, almost right up there with screaming “Kevin!”
