Elton John Honored With His Own Official UK Coin

Elton John has been honored with his very own official UK coin. The Royal Mint announced the accolade, marking the second installment of their “Music Legends” collection (the first coin was minted in honor of Queen). “It really is a fabulous honour to be recognised in this way,” Elton John said in a press release. He added: “The last few years have contained some of the most memorable moments of my career, and this is another truly humbling milestone on my journey.” Check out Elton’s coin below.

Elton’s coin was designed by artist Bradley Morgan Johnson, who incorporated the singer and composer’s iconic straw boater hat in the design, as well as a music note and the Union Jack. The commemorative coins will be available to purchase in Gold proof, Silver proof and Brilliant Uncirculated editions.

“Elton John is without a doubt a British music legend and is recognised as one of the most successful singer-songwriters of his generation,” Clare Maclennan, Divisional Director of Commemorative Coin and the Royal Mint Experience said in a press release. Maclennan continued: “We are delighted to honour Elton’s significant contribution to British music on a UK coin. This is the second coin in the Royal Mint’s new Music Legends series, marking the work of our exceptional British musicians.”
