Queens-based soul singer duendita has announced a new EP. The follow-up to 2018’s Direct Line to My Creator is titled The Mind Is a Miracle and will arrive September 27. Duendita is sharing a preview of that EP with the new song “Born With Power,” which they created with frequent collaborator Noah Becker and pianist Paul Wilson. Check out its accompanying video, by Ameer Kazmi, below.

The idea for “Born With Power” came to duendita while touring Europe, and they fleshed it out with Becker while back on the road in the United States. “Working in headphones in the living room of our Airbnb while our friends watched Squid Game, we made ‘Born With Power,’” the artist explained. “We performed it onstage for the first time days later. Live performance is at the center of our creative process, and we let those early performances of the song inform this final version. When we got back to New York, pianist Paul Wilson blessed the track, which was endlessly fun for me to edit. The entire process from voice note to final export was extremely collaborative, and that’s what makes this song so special.”

Earlier this year, duendita unveiled their new single “Planetary”—their first in two years—alongside a Sandy Ismail–directed music video. That song and the Joy Guidry collaboration “Feel” join “Born With Power” on the new EP.

Back in 2021, duendita dropped two standalone singles: “Open Eyes” and “Bio.” More recently, Jamila Woods invited duendita to join her on her album Water Made Us where they collaborated on the standout song “Tiny Garden.” Duendita also joined Wiki on his full-length Half God.
