Wendy Williams has made a first step in her battle for freedom in the ongoing battle against her guardianship. Recently, the former talk show host just had her day in court. Notably, photos of Williams following the appearance have also drawn significant attention. In addition, an inside source has shed some light on what is happening.
Wendy Williams Spoke With A Photographer After The Court Hearing
Wendy Williams is arguably best known for hosting her own talk show, The Wendy Williams Show. However, the star has been living under a guardianship, and within an assisted living facility, since being diagnosed with frontotemporal dementia and aphasia.
In recent months, Williams has made headlines speaking out about her situation. This has notably been with outlets ranging from the radio podcast series, The Breakfast Club, to The View, which marked her return to daytime television.

However, as noted by The U.S. Sun, Williams has taken the first steps to freedom with a recent court appearance. The star could be seen outside following a visit to guardianship court hearing this past Monday.
After the hearing, Williams stopped and spoke with a photographer who asked if the proceedings ended up in her favor. While the court proceedings are kept under seal, she replied, “It did.”
The star was then asked if the emergency petitions also went her way. She claimed, “They did, thank you!”
The publication revealed that Judge Lisa Sokoloff agreed to allow Williams to leave the memory unit she is currently living in. Notably, the star has previously compared it to prison.
Williams has currently been living there for the past half year. Notably, the publication also shared that Wendy’s attorney, Sadatu Salami, filed to have her moved with an emergency petition last week.
An inside source also gave some insight into what Williams’ new abode would be like. They shared, “She will be in like a private condo now. She will have much more freedom to come and go as she pleases, she’ll be able to have visitors, and she’ll be free to leave when she wants.”
The Source Also Touched On Williams’ Recent Capacity Test
It was noted that Williams and her niece Alex went out to dinner to celebrate the court win. Radio DJ Charlemagne tha God, who Williams talked with during her talks with The Breakfast Club, was also said to be there.
The insider then revealed there were multiple reasons Williams appeared at court. They continued, “Her team will also begin settlement talks for the guardianship.”

“Ultimately Wendy wants completely out of the arrangement, but there are some tests she’ll have to face moving forward to see just how much freedom she will be given, and if that means she’s entirely free from the guardianship, or if she will be granted less oversight in the future with some other legal arrangement. But all that will be determined in the coming weeks.”
As was previously reported, Williams recently aced a capacity test, which was also reportedly brought up during the hearing. The source shared, “Basically the judge took issue with the cognitive test she took last week at Mt. Sinai.”
“The judge said that doesn’t prove incapacitation it just proves that she is coherent, cognitive and alert. So, Wendy will be doing another, full cognitive workup to determine her cognitive ability and get a neurological exam for her frontotemporal dementia diagnosis.”
The insider also added that the judge has shared that they would be open to hearing Williams’ wishes. In addition, her team is currently working on a settlement.
