During an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, Rep. Jasmine Crockett (D-TX) explained how she came up with the “Trump or Trans” game she used to destroy Donald Trump and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) in a hearing, a moment that subsequently went viral.
“I needed to keep it simple,” she explained, before adding a dig at Donald Trump’s intelligence, “especially when I’m trying to send a message to him. Gotta keep it very simple.”

“I wanted to be clear,” she said, “there was no reason we were having a hearing about who can play what sports… I wanted to redirect and make sure the American people knew that this was nothing but a distraction. Sometimes, coming up with something very plain and very simple is probably the best way to go. So that’s why I did it.”

The hearing on trans athletes was inexplicably led by the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, of which Greene is chair. Many expressed confusion about how banning trans people from participating in school sports related at all to the subject of government efficiency, which is usually about grants and spending.
“I’m going to ask you a question, and I want you to tell me whether it is Trump or trans people that are responsible,” Crockett told National Women’s Law Center CEO, Fatima Goss Graves.
Crockett then proceeded to list major problems in the country today so Goss Graves could say whether trans people or Trump were responsible. Spoiler alert: they were all Trump’s fault.
The list included “gutt[ing] medical research”; “kidnapping Americans and sending them to foreign countries, AKA deporting them”; “Driving us into a recession”; “increasing the cost of everything”; “waging an idiotic tariff war”; “harming farmers”; “ignoring the constitution”; “proposing to take away social security”; “cutting health care”; “firing government workers who keep our country safe”; “encouraging an environment of hate and divisiveness.”
After Goss Graves answered Trump to every question, Crockett went on to slam Republicans for purporting to care about government waste while supporting Trump’s endless golf outings.
On The Late Show, she also shared her reaction to the administration threatening to arrest members of Congress for protesting outside a controversial ICE facility.
“We are standing 10 toes down for our members,” Crockett said. “We have jobs, and unlike some other people, say the big guy in the White House who has spent 25% of his time golfing, we actually care about our jobs, and we are trying to serve the American people, and we have a duty of oversight over these agencies, and knowing that they are literally just kidnapping people off of the streets and we don’t know what types of conditions they are putting them in, I actually want to applaud my fellow members of Congress who don’t take their jobs lightly but instead take them very seriously, especially in this moment.”
She also spoke about Elon Musk’s corruption, Trump’s many mistakes since taking office, and her role on a committee actually seeking to improve government efficiency.
