Mortuary worker Amber Paige Laudermilk of Houston, Texas has recently landed herself in hot water following accusations that she brutally mutilated the corpse of a registered sex offender on February 7, 2025.
At the time of the alleged event, Laudermilk worked as an embalmer at Memorial Mortuary & Crematory. She was tasked with performing post-life services on Charles Roy Rodriguez. Rodriguez died of natural causes at age 58 at a nearby hospital in January of this year. Thereafter, he was transported to Memorial Mortuary & Crematory. That’s when things took a decidedly dark turn.
Court documents reveal that two witnesses reported observing Laudermilk improperly handling Rodriguez’s remains. She stands accused of stabbing the victim in the groin multiple times with a scalpel before cutting off his penis and placing it in his mouth.

Official documents reveal that Laudermilk allegedly told one witness, an embalming student, “You didn’t see anything.” The report goes on to suggest that the witness perceived that statement as threatening.
A second witness who is also referenced in court docs asked Laudermilk about Rodriguez’s mutilated anatomy. That witness reports that Laudermilk replied by explaining that Rodriguez had “a lot going on with him.”
Public records reveal that Rodriguez was charged with sexual assault in 2001 and has since been registered as a sex offender. Authorities believe his status as a sex offender, something the employees at the mortuary were aware of, played a role in Laudermilk’s decision to posthumously desecrate his corpse.
Laudermilk stands accused of felony abuse of a corpse. Her license has been suspended following the filing of charges.
NBC News caught up with Harris County, Texas Precinct One Constable Alan Rosen, who provided a statement on the ordeal:
“This case is about two troubled people: the victim who was a registered sex offender and the defendant, who is accused of viciously attacking his dead body. No matter what one thinks of his life, the law requires that he be treated with dignity in death.”
