Cher has more than a new love in her life; she also has some brand new songs on the way.
The singer revealed this week that she and her boyfriend Alexander “A.E.” Edwards are making some beautiful music together. In an interview with E! News at the Carol Burnett: 90 Years of Laughter + Love taping last Thursday, the singer announced, “I’m going to England to make two albums. Some of the songs Alexander gave me, so I’m pretty excited about that. He’s a producer and a writer and he does everything, so I’m happy about that.” She also hinted that the tracks from her boyfriend are some of her favorites, explaining, “I think like any artist, when you’ve got something good, you’re excited.” And in case two new albums wasn’t exciting enough news for her fans, Cher added that she’s also “trying to get myself in shape” in order to go on tour later this year.
Despite being forty years her junior, Edwards and the pop legend have been going strong since they first met during Paris Fashion Week last year. They went public with their relationship shortly after in November 2022 when they were spotted holding hands as they exited West Hollywood celebrity hangout Craig’s. The following day the singer responded to a tweet that said, “Someone’s got a new boyfriendddd,” with “YESSSSS.” And that weekend, she tweeted out a screenshot of the music producer, writing, “Alexander” alongside it with a red heart emoji.
Fans were initially concerned that the music producer might not be a good fit for Cher, but she assured them that he treats her like a queen. And during an interview on The Kelly Clarkson Show the following month she addressed detractors of her new relationship directly. “On paper, it’s kind of ridiculous. But in real life, we get along great,” she explained. The Grammy winner went on to add that she’s never been one to “give men” praise “they don’t deserve,” but when it comes to Edwards she can’t help but gush about how “fabulous,” “very kind,” “very smart,” “very talented,” and “really funny” he is. Plus, she added, “I think he’s quite handsome.” Cher noted that she’s also always had a thing for younger men. “If I hadn’t met younger men in my life, I would’ve never had a date. Because older men just didn’t like me all that much, do you know what I mean?,” she said. “I have had a couple of boyfriends that were hovering around my age, but they just didn’t like me for some reason. Maybe younger men don’t care if you’re funny or outrageous and want to do stupid things and you have a strong personality. I’m not giving up my personality for anybody, ok?”
