Christina Aguilera screamed trans rights with a new Pride collection in support of two pioneering transgender charities.
The pop superstar launched the collection on Saturday (15 May), two weeks ahead of Pride month, and announced the news to her 7.3 million Instagram followers.
She said she was “so excited” to share the Pride 2021 collection which includes rainbow sweatshirts, tank tops, masks and underwear featuring her moniker “XTINA”.
“I am also proud to support TransTech Social Enterprises and TransLash Media, two organisations doing such important work for the community,” she added.
TransTech Social Enterprises, founded by Pose star Angelica Ross, is an advocacy group that helps employ trans people in tech by teaching them new skills, building their professional networks and connecting them with employers.
Meanwhile, TransLash Media is a nonprofit organisation and podcast telling inspiring stories about people who are trans, two-spirit, non-binary or gender non-conforming.
Christina Aguilera’s post has already been liked nearly 50,000 times, shining a huge spotlight on these vital trans resources – and the star’s website states that a portion of all sales will go towards the groups.
Aguilera is well known for her support of the LGBT+ community, which supports her right back.
The gay icon was honoured by the Human Rights Campaign in 2019 with the Ally for Equality Award, in recognition for her “tireless efforts for positive change”.
“Christina Aguilera is a living legend and a true LGBTQ icon who consistently uses her global superstar platform to share a message of hope and inspiration to those who have been marginalised simply because of who they are,” HRC President Chad Griffin said at the time.
And she’s not the only pop legend who launched a Pride collection this week: Mariah Carey also dropped her line of throwback Pride merch, telling her loyal subjects to “celebrate your fabulosity and be proud!!”
