A new book about Arthur Russell has been announced. Travels Over Feeling: Arthur Russell, a Life, by Richard King, is out Tuesday, April 16, 2024, via Anthology Editions in the United States and April 18 via Faber in the United Kingdom. The book will feature handwritten scores, lyrics, photos, letters, and drawings from the late composer’s archives, plus new biographical text by King, as well as interviews with Russell’s peers, family, and friends. See a selection of photos from Travels Over Feeling, as well as the book’s cover, below.

“Uncovering the riches of Arthur’s archives was as immersive and intimate an experience as listening to his music,” King said in a statement. “I have endeavored to produce a book that provides the reader with a similar sense of discovery and wonder.”

Faber will launch the book at the Barbican in London on May 25 with a performance from Lucinda Chua with Speakers Corner Quartet. Other special guests are promised, but further names are unannounced.

Earlier this year, the posthumous Russell collection Picture of Bunny Rabbit was released. Read about it in Pitchfork’s article “The Story Behind the Greatest Arthur Russell Compilation Yet.”
